ApApostolos Gkoutzinis is an international lawyer and partner of Shearman & Sterling. He is widely recognized as one of the leading lawyers in global financial markets and one of the leading international lawyers in relation to Greece. In the recent years, he has represented most of the major banks and listed companies of the country, as well as foreign investors, on matters relating to private and public capital, financings, recapitalizations, strategic transactions, restructurings, refinancings, non-performing loan portfolios and other types of investments. Apostolos holds degrees from Harvard Law School, the University of London, the Law School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He was a Banking Law Scholar for Greece’s s National Scholarship Foundation for the years 1999-2003 and a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard Law School for 2004-2005. He started his career as an associate professor of law at the University of London and moved to private practice with Shearman & Sterling in 2005. He has published numerous books and articles on matters of international financial markets. Apostolos has won several awards for his legal work and is recognized as a leading individual in international financial markets by all of the major leading directories, including Who is Who Legal, Chambers Global, Chambers Europe, Chambers UK, Legal 500, IFLR, Client Choice, and others. In 2015, he was named as one of the 40 Rising Stars under 40 in the legal profession by Financial News. Apostolos is a visiting professor of International Capital Markets Regulation at the International Hellenic University, and a visiting lecturer at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, the University of London. Apostolos is a non-executive member of the Governing Council of Hellenic Exchanges, the holding company and governing body of the Athens Stock Exchange, various derivatives exchanges, electronic trading platforms and clearing houses operating under the auspices of the Athens Stock Exchange. He was born in 1975 in Kavala, Greece. Apostolos is married and has five children.
