Ilias Siakantaris is the financial analyst of ALPHA TV, covering the international and Greek economy as well as the bailout negotiations for the leading broadcaster in Greece. He was awarded with the Association of European Journalists Prize for Integrity and EU coverage (2015). Tweets incessantly at @iliassiak. In broadcast since 2006, he provided detailed analysis of the -then- “global imbalances” which morphed into the financial crisis that triggered the collapse of Greece. Previous to Alpha, he was working for SKAI TV/Radio as business correspondent and news anchor. He produced and presented the only daily and weekly shows focused on the economic crisis since 2008. Additionally he drafts detailed news reports and analyses for clients and appears on international broadcasters (BBCWorld, AJ, RAI, SKY News, as well as Irish, Dutch, Danish, Austrian, Spanish and Portuguese media) as a specialist on the Greek crisis. Ilias studied Economics at Athens University of Economics and Business, and Journalism at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York. In the late Nineties, he worked as production assistant at CBS48Hours, business reporter at the English Edition of Kathimerini/IHT and wrote newscopy for Flash Radio morning news show. Later, he managed BIG, a men's lifestyle magazine and contributed business columns and interviews with successful businesspeople to a range of national and international outlets. More recently he was a columnist for Kathimerini.
