Alkiviadis Stefanis was born on October 7, 1959, in Athens and comes from Agiasos, Mytilene. He is General (ret.) Honorary Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff. As a graduate from the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon), he has attended all required Armor Officer Training Courses, as well as the US Army Armored Advanced Course (Army Armor School, Fort Knox, Kentucky). He graduated from the Supreme War College, National Defence College and the National Defense University (NDU) in Washington DC, US, from where he gained a MSc in National Security Strategy. During his career, among other positions, he served as a Commander at the 98th National Guard Tank Battalion (1998 – 2000), Aide-de-Camp to the President of the Hellenic Republic during the Presidency of Kostis Stefanopoulos (2000 – 2002), Commanding General to the XXIII Armoured Brigade (2011 – 2012), Director of the D’ Branch of the Hellenic Army General Staff (2012 – 2014), Commanding General of the 95th Higher National Guard Battalions Command (2014 – 2015), Commanding General of C Army Corps/NRDC-GR (2016 – 2017) and Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff (2017 – 2019).
