Ilias Siakantaris (Twitter: @iliassiak) is a journalist and financial analyst - news anchor for Greek public TV (ERT), radio host at Thema Radio, and contributor to powergame.gr. Beyond Greek affairs he follows closely global finance, monetary developments (ECB press pool), EU and Middle East geopolitics. Veteran of the Great Financial and Greek crisis, has studied Journalism at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism (MA J’98) and Economics at Athens University of Economics and Business (BSc ΟΠΑ’95). In broadcast since 2006, he provided daily, detailed analysis of the -then- global macro imbalances, which morphed into the financial crisis that triggered the collapse of the Greek economy.
Before joining the public broadcasting corporation in 2021, he worked as the financial analyst of ALPHA TV and covered the international and Greek economy, following the Εurogroup crowd around European capitals and reporting on the Greek bailout negotiations. He was awarded with the Association of European Journalists Prize for Integrity and EU coverage (2015). Prior to that he was working for SKAI TV/Radio as business correspondent and news anchor. He produced and presented the only daily and weekly shows focused on the economic crisis since 2008. He was also a columnist for Kathimerini on monetary issues and global finance. Additionally he drafts detailed news reports, macro and geopolitical analyses for clients and appears on international broadcasters (BBCWorld, AJ, RAI, SKY News, as well as Irish, Dutch, Danish, Austrian, Spanish and Portuguese media).
