Roderick Beaton is Emeritus Koraes Professor of Modern Greek and Byzantine History, Language and Literature at King’s College London, a post he held for thirty years until his retirement in 2018, the last six of them also as Director of the Centre for Hellenic Studies at the same institution. He is the author of many books and articles about aspects of the Greek-speaking world from the twelfth century to the present day, including George Seferis: Waiting for the Angel. A Biography (2003) and Byron’s War: Romantic Rebellion, Greek Revolution (2013), both of which won the prestigious Runciman Award for best book on the Hellenic world. His new book, Greece: Biography of a Modern Nation, was published in March 2019. Roderick Beaton is a Fellow of the British Academy (FBA), a Fellow of King’s College (FKC) and a member of Council of the British School at Athens (2011-2020).
