1990-today: teaches in the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Crete, Greece.

Research Activities: Economic and Social History of the Ottoman Empire and Modern Greece. Agricultural History. Proto-industrialisation in the Ottoman Balkans. Historical National Accounts of Modern Greece.

Participation in Research Projects: Member of the Management Comity and Core Group of the Programme de Recherches sur le Sociétés Rurales Européennes (PROGRESSORE network) COST A35. Coordinator of the Working Group 4 (State and rural societies).

Publications: Published more than 30 papers in refereed journal, collective volumes and international conference proceedings. Has published or are forthcoming 3 books and edited 4 volumes.

Conference Participation/Attendance: He participated in over than 35 and organized 4 international and national conferences.

PhD Students: Two Students have received their PhD under his supervision.

Teaching Activities: Taught in undergraduate courses and postgraduate seminars. Have been invited as Directeur d’Etudes invité in the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, in Paris, and as Research Fellow in the European University Institute Florence.
