Michalis Sallas
President, Lyktos Group
Mr. Michalis Sallas is the Chairman of “LYKTOS GROUP”, an investment group of companies with activities in the energy field, in real estate and in the banking sector as a strategic investor in “Pancreta Bank”. “Lyktos Group” has also invested in “SEMELI” one of the top Greek winemaking units.
Mr. Sallas holds the title of Honorary Chairman of “PIRAEUS BANK” that he established and served as Chairman of the BOD for 25 years until his resignation on July 2016. From 1984 to 1991, Mr. Sallas played an active role in the process of deregulation, modernization and development of the Greek market, particularly those of the financial sector, through his service in various positions. He served as Secretary General of the Ministry of Commerce, Governor of the Hellenic Industrial Development Bank, Chairman of the Capital Markets Committee and Chairman of the first Committee for the Modernization of the Hellenic Banking System, as well as member of the BOD of the Hellenic Bank Association for the years 1987-1988 and 1998-2007.
Mr. Sallas was born in Heraklion, Crete, in 1950. He studied Economic Science at the Athens University and obtained his PhD from the University of Heidelberg. Following that, he worked as scientific associate in the Institute for International Comparative Statistics at the University of Heidelberg. From 1983 to 1997, he was a professor of Econometrics at the Panteion University in Athens.
