Timothy Garton Ash, on the occasion of the release of his book 'Homelands' in Greek by Psychogios Publications, spoke at the event organized by the Delphi Economic Forum, addressing the historical challenges of our planet. The event took place on November 1st, 2023.
The distinguished historian and political writer presented a personal history of Europe as he has experienced it over the last 50 years. He traveled, researched, and documented his experiences in the homelands of Europe. As he explained, being European, he feels a sense of belonging in many countries, not just one.
During the event, Timothy Garton Ash specifically discussed World War I & II, the Soviet Union, the European Union, NATO, Russia's war against Ukraine, and the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas.
He also made a special mention of his visit to Delphi and the Delphi Economic Forum in 2018. He said that this historical place served as a source of inspiration for him, as he found himself in the very location where our ancient ancestors sought guidance about the future. "And, paradoxical as it may sound, people ask historians like me about the future," he added, "but the future is merely a continuation of the past."
